Draft Environmental Impact Statement
Winchelsea Mining Pty Ltd (Winchelsea Mining) proposes to construct and operate an open-cut manganese mine on Winchelsea Island (Akwamburrkba), Northern Territory. The proposal is targeting an ore production rate of up to 1.2 million tonnes per annum, with an 11 year mine life.
The proposal is a controlled action under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The relevant controlling provisions are:
The proposal is being assessed at the level of Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) by the Northern Territory Environmental Protection Authority (NT EPA) and an accredited assessment process under the EPBC Act. Winchelsea Mining has submitted a draft EIS for assessment.
Public review period – The draft EIS can be viewed electronically at the Winchelsea Mining website https://wmining.com.au/ , and the NT EPA website https://ntepa.nt.gov.au/consultation/open-consultations .
