Notification for publication of final Preliminary Documentation under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act)

In accordance with section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, public comment was invited on an action proposed to be undertaken by Epic Energy South Australia Pty Ltd. The application involves the construction and operation of a hydrogen transportation and storage pipeline north of Whyalla.

The proposed action was determined to be a controlled action under the EPBC Act with assessment by Preliminary Documentation. The controlling provisions for the proposed action under Part 3 of the EPBC Act are listed threatened species and communities (section 18 and 18A) with the listed species being the Western Grasswren (Amytornis textilis myall) and the Southern Whiteface (Aphelocephala leucopsis), National Heritage places (sections 15B and 15C) with the National Heritage place being the Cuttlefish Coast Sanctuary Zone and listed migratory shorebird species (sections 20 and 20A).

No relevant comments related to the environmental impacts of the proposed action were received during the consultation period.

In accordance with section 95B(4) of the EPBC Act, the final Preliminary Documentation relating to the proposed action is published for information only for 10 business days from Thursday 22 May 2025.

Hard copies of the final Preliminary Documentation (including all attachments) will be available for viewing at no cost at the Whyalla City Council 21 Grundel Street Whyalla Norrie, Epic Energy Level 6, 70 Franklin Street Adelaide and the Department for Energy and Mining, Level 4, 11 Waymouth St, Adelaide.
