Are you an owner occupier?
Do you own a residential property in the Whitsunday area and live there permanently? Council is seeking information from the owners of residential properties, which is their principal place of residence and is also single residential use, within the Whitsunday area, in order to categorise properties correctly for the benefit of a lower differential general rate. If your property is your principal place of residence, please complete the form and return it to the Council by the due date of the next rate notice. If you are already receiving the owner occupier benefit, you do not need to reapply.

Pensioner Remission on Rates
Persons in receipt of a pension, who qualify in accordance with Council’s Policy and/or the State Government’s Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme, are hereby requested to make application for the second half of the 2019/2020 year. Written applications are required from pensioners:
• whose Pension only commenced within the last twelve months
• the property is pensioner’s principal place of residence
• whose Pension has been amended since your previous application
• whose address has changed
• who received less than the maximum rebate and now wish to be considered for a full rebate
Pensioners who received the maximum benefits in the 2018/2019 year and whose situation has not altered need not submit a written application. Confirmation of your eligibility will be sought from the Department of Communities and Department of Veteran Affairs.

Rating Concession - Granny Flats
A concession for service charges can be granted to residential properties that consist of a dwelling and a granny flat. Property owners whose property includes not only their principal place of residence, but also accommodation in the form of one (1) granny flat may wish to apply for this concession. The granny flat must be for an approved aged relative. For the 2019/2020 financial year, Council may grant a concession on the water, sewerage and garbage charges that are levied for the property. This is subject to Granny Flat Policy being re-adopted for the financial year 2020/21.
