An authorisation meeting of the members of the Native Title Claim Group of the Gudjala People #3 Claim (Gudjala Claim Group) has been called to replace the current Gudjala applicant (Ms Alice Fischer, Ms Patricia Dallachy, Ms Gloria Santo and Mr William Santo) for exceeding its power by appointing a new legal representative for the Gudjala #3 Claim.

The arrangements for the meeting are:

Date:Saturday, 20 April 2024

Time: 1:00pm -3 :00pm

(registration from 12.30pm)

Place:PCYC Charters Towers

29/35 Enterprise Road

Charters Towers QLD 4820

Persons who are members of the Gudjala #3 Claim Group should attend the meeting. Gudjala #3 Claim Group members are the descendants of:

(b) Cissy McGregor;

(c) Maggie "Ton Ton" Thompson;

The primary purpose of the meeting is to replace the current applicant of the Gudjala #3 Claim under section 66B of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) because it has exceeded its authority.

The Authorisation Meeting will consider the current Gudjala applicant’s unauthorised appointment of a solicitor other than a person employed by the North Queensland Land Council Representative Body (NQLC) to make and conduct the Gudjala #3 Claim, and the meeting will deal with the following:

1.A resolution to authorise a replacement applicant to make and conduct the Gudjala #3 Claim and to deal with matters arising in relation to it;

2.A resolution to confirm an in-house solicitor of the NQLC as the applicant’s legal representative for the Gudjala People #3 Claim; and

3.A resolution about how mining, exploration and land development affecting land and waters covered by the Gudjala #3 Claim are to be dealt with in the future.

This is a very important meeting for members of the Gudjala Claim Group as it will affect how the Gudjala #3 Claim will be conducted in the Federal Court of Australia in the future.
