Stage 1 water restrictions - various locations

TasWater is implementing Stage 1 water restrictions for all serviced

communities from greater Hobart to Wynyard inclusive.

Towns on Stages 2 and 3, will continue at advised levels of restriction.

These restrictions will apply from Monday 20 January 2020 until Tuesday,

31 March 2020.

The aim of Stage 1 restrictions is to reduce non-essential outdoor water usage by 20 per cent.

These restrictions will apply unless an exemption is granted.

The following rules apply to Stage 1 restrictions:

Residential, public and commercial gardens and lawns

Garden and lawn watering is allowed on any day during the following times:

• Manual watering systems are only to be used from 6am to 8am, and 8pm to 10pm

• Automatic watering systems are only to be used between midnight and 4am

• Handheld hoses with a trigger nozzle, buckets or watering cans may be used at any time

Sports grounds

Watering of sports grounds is allowed on any day during the following times:

• Manual watering systems are only to be used from 6am to 8am, and 8pm to 10pm

• Automatic watering systems are only to be used between midnight and 4am

• Handheld hoses with a trigger nozzle, buckets or watering cans may be used at any time

Paving, concrete and other hard surfaces

• Spot cleaning for safety, health, animal welfare or emergency reasons is permitted with

high pressure cleaning equipment or a hose fitted with a trigger nozzle

• Water use for construction when; using water for dust or pollutant suppression, or earth

compaction by means of a hose fitted with a flow cut-off device or a vehicle fitted with

sprinklers is permitted

• Hosing for general cleaning of hard surfaces such as paths, driveways and paved areas is

not permitted

Washing vehicles

• A bucket, high pressure cleaning device or commercial car wash may be used at any time

• A handheld hose with a trigger nozzle may be used for pre-rinsing and rinsing at home

Residential or commercial pools or spas

• Emptying and refilling existing pools and spas, and filling new pools and spas

- up to 2,000 litres may only be refilled, or filled for the first time using a bucket,

automatic water top up device or a handheld hose fitted with a trigger nozzle

- more than 2,000 litres may only be refilled, or filled for the first time when the

property owner has an approved exemption from TasWater

• Topping up pools and spas may be done using a bucket, watering can, automatic water

top up device or a handheld hose fitted with a trigger nozzle
