PROPOSED RENAMING OF LITTLETON

5/11/2023

PUBLIC NOTICE
Proposed new name for Littleton National Park

The Department of Environment and Science (the department) is proposing to rename Littleton National Park to Tagalaka National Park.

Tagalaka is the traditional name used by the registered native title holders for the area and refers to the Country which includes Littleton National Park. The native title rights and interests of the Tagalka People were first recognised in the native title determinations on 10 December 2012.

Tagalaka People have an ongoing connection to this Country and engage in cooperative management of the National Park with the department. Aboriginal cultural sites are a significant value on the park.

After extensive consultation with the Tagalaka People they have requested that the name of Littleton National Park is changed to ‘Tagalaka National Park’.

The department is seeking comments from the public and interested groups about the proposed renaming.

Comments on the proposed name change should be made to:

Directorate Northern Parks and Forests
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service
Department of Environment and Science
PO Box 2066
Cairns, Queensland 4870

Comments are to be received by 5pm 4 December 2023.
