PROPOSED INDIGENOUS LAND USE AGREEMENT (ILUA) IN BARCOO SHIRE – INFORMATION MEETING

The State of Queensland represented

by the Department of Agriculture and

Fisheries (DAF) is seeking expressions of

interest from any person claiming to hold

native title in the ‘Proposed ILUA Area’

pursuant to section 24CD(2)(c)(i) of the

Native Title Act 1993 (Cth)(NTA).

DAF administers the issue of sales

permits in relation to state-owned quarry

material in accordance with the Forestry

Act 1959 and is seeking future act consent

for the issue of quarry sales permits in

the Proposed ILUA Area through an Area

Agreement ILUA.

The Proposed ILUA Area is an unclaimed/

undetermined area wholly within the

Barcoo Shire Council Local Government

Area. Queensland South Native Title

Services (QSNTS) is the Representative

Aboriginal Body for the Proposed

ILUA Area.

This notice invites all persons who claim to

hold native title in the Proposed ILUA Area

to attend an information meeting with DAF

representatives at the times and locations

above. DAF will be holding two separate

meetings in Rockhampton and Brisbane.

The purpose of the meetings is to:

1. identify all persons who claim to

hold native title over the unclaimed/

undetermined area shown as the

‘Proposed ILUA Area’ in the map above

2. provide an overview of the

proposed ILUA

3. identify a representative working group

to take part in negotiations

4. identify preferred legal representation

for the native title interests

5. discuss a timetable for future

meetings.

Attendance and registration

Persons who, for the purposes of section

24CD(2)(c)(i) of the NTA, claim to hold

native title in the Proposed ILUA Area and

wish to attend an information meeting

must register their interest to attend

either the Brisbane or Rockhampton

meeting by contacting OCHRE Community

Consulting on 1800 507... by 5 pm

Monday 3 June 2024.

by 5 pm Monday 3 June 2024 for any

reimbursement of travel expenses. Please
