On 12 May 2025, the City of Charles Sturt resolved under Section 32 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 to permanently close the following sections of road to vehicle traffic:
- Drayton Street, Brompton/Bowden - between East Street, Brompton, and Second Street, Bowden.
- East Street, Brompton - between Drayton Street and a point 20 metres northeast of Drayton Street.
Although these sections will remain classified as road reserve, they will be transformed into a landscaped corridor and extended as part of the Outer Harbor Greenway cycling route. The closure applies only to vehicles. Pedestrian and cycling access will continue.
These sections have already been closed to vehicles with barriers since 2019 as part of the Brompton Gasworks development.
