Notice of By-Law Review Community Consultation



Council consulting community from 8 June 2022 to 8 July 2022.

The City of Mitcham is seeking community feedback on the suite of draft By-laws that have been developed as part of the review of our By-laws, including a proposed by-law which will improve the management and control of cats within the Council area.

At its Council meeting on 10 May 2022, The City of Mitcham endorsed the following seven By-laws to be released for public consultation:

  • By-law No.1 – Permits and Penalties

Provides a system for the issuing of permits for those activities within the suite of by-laws that require permission and also the enforcement of breaches and fixing of penalties

  • By-law No.2 – Moveable Signs

To set standards for moveable signs on roads, to provide conditions for and the placement of such signs, to protect public safety and to protect or enhance the amenity of the area of the Council

  • By-law No.3 – Local Government Land

The purpose of this by-law is to regulate the access to and use of Council Land and those activities that require permission and those that are prohibited on local government land

  • By-law No.4 – Roads

For the management of public roads including the prohibition and regulation of particular activities

  • By-law No.5 – Dogs

For the management and control of dogs within the Council’s area

  • By-law No.6 – Cats (three options)

To provide for the control and management of cats in the Council area and promote responsible cat ownership

  • By-law No.7 – Waste Management

To regulate and control the removal of domestic, recyclable and green organic waste from premises, for the prevention and suppression of nuisances, and for regulating the management of property of the Council

The public consultation period will be open from 8 June 2022 to 8 July 2022.

Hard copy responses marked Submission By-Law Review may also be mailed to Council, at City of Mitcham, PO Box 21 Mitcham Shopping Centre, Torrens Park SA 5062 and submissions can also be lodged via Councils website as detailed above.

All feedback must be received by close of business on Friday 8 July 2022.
