NOTICE FOR REGISTRATION OF INTEREST

30/10/2024

Sydney Water is investigating the opportunity to include Purified Recycled Water (PRW) as a water supply option for Sydney. This includes the ‘Securing our water supply – Quakers Hill to Prospect’ project. This project would include a new PRW Treatment Plant at Quakers Hill, new pipelines from the PRW Treatment Plant to Prospect Reservoir and Seven Hills for waste disposal as well as a range of further works to accommodate PRW, including associated ancillary infrastructure. The project is located in the Blacktown local government area. The proponent is Sydney Water (James Harrington, Senior Project Manager: Level 11, 1 Smith Street, Parramatta NSW 2150).

The project is State Significant Infrastructure which means Sydney Water is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. The EIS will be assessed in accordance with Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) specific for this project issued by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI). The SEARs include requirements for the assessment of Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Sydney Water proposes to carry out consultation with Aboriginal communities in accordance with the Heritage NSW Aboriginal cultural heritage consultation requirements for proponents 2010, as per the standard SEARs. The purpose of this consultation process is to inform the preparation of an EIS and to assist DPHI in its consideration of the proposal. Kelleher Nightingale Consulting Pty Ltd has been engaged by Sydney Water to facilitate the consultation process.

Sydney Water invites Aboriginal groups and/or Aboriginal people who hold cultural knowledge relevant to determining the significance of Aboriginal objects and/or places between Quakers Hill, Seven Hills and Prospect in the Blacktown local government area to register interest in a process of community consultation with the contact shown below (on behalf of Sydney Water):
