Hail Creek Open Cut Eastern Margin Extension Project
Resource activity: Mining activity relating to a mining lease
It is advised that Hail Creek Holdings Pty Limited has lodged an application for a major amendment to an environmental authority in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1994. The environmental authority being amended is EPML00661913.
The application relates to extension of the current operation at the Hail Creek Open Cut mine through the Eastern Margin Extension Project which extends the mining areas to the north and south of the existing eastern margin area. The Hail Creek Open Cut is located approximately 85 kilometres west of Mackay and 35 km north-west of Nebo in Central Queensland.
The resource activity is proposed to occur on the following tenure(s) and will involve:
The project is proposed to be undertaken on Lot 17 Plan SP236270 where Hail Creek Holdings Pty Limited holds Mining Lease (ML) 4738.
Schedule 3 13: Mining black coal. Ancillary 08 Schedule 2 - Chemical Storage 3: Storing more than 500 cubic metres of chemicals of class C1 or C2 combustible liquids under AS 1940 or dangerous goods class 3 under subsection (1)(c).
Ancillary Activity, Schedule 2 – 31: Mineral processing, 2: Processing, in a year, the following quantities of mineral products, other than coke, (b) more than 100,000t.
Ancillary Activity, Schedule 2 – 60: Waste disposal, 1: Operating a facility for disposing of, in a year, the following quantity of waste mentioned in subsection (1)(a), (d) more than 200,000t.
Ancillary Activity, Schedule 2 – 63: Sewage treatment, 1: Operating sewage treatment works, other than no-release works, with a total daily peak design capacity of, (b-ii) more than 100 but not more than 1500EP otherwise.

It is advised that any person may make a submission about the application documents during the submission period, which is from 13/05/2025 to 10/06/2025. Submission must be received on or before 4.30pm on the last day of the submission period. Submissions must be sent to:

• state the grounds of the submission and the facts and circumstances relied on in support of the grounds.
