Adoption of Moreton Bay Regional Council Planning Scheme Amendment - Major Amendment No.3 - the Better Housing Amendment

In accordance with section 20 of the Planning Act 2016 and Chapter 2, Part 4, section 22 of the Minister’s Guidelines and Rules, Moreton Bay City Council gives notice that on 4 September 2024 it adopted “Moreton Bay Regional Council Planning Scheme Amendment - Major Amendment No. 3 - the Better Housing Amendment” (adopted amendment). The adopted amendment is a major amendment to the Moreton Bay Regional Council Planning Scheme Version 6 that will come into effect on 30 October 2024 as part of the Moreton Bay Regional Council Planning Scheme Version 7.

Whilst the adopted amendment is intended to apply over the Moreton Bay City Council’s entire local government area, its application will predominantly be called up over land contained in the Next generation neighbourhood precinct (and the equivalent Transition precinct and parts of the Caboolture West local plan), Urban neighbourhood precinct, Suburban neighbourhood precinct and Coastal communities precinct, as relevant.

The purpose and general effect of the adopted amendment is to support better housing and neighbourhoods in the region and improve liveability for current and future residents.

The adopted amendment supports policy changes relating to the following:

• with respect to land contained within the Next generation neighbourhood precinct (and the equivalent Transition precinct and parts of the Caboolture West local plan) more greenspace and larger yards and more liveable, comfortable and attractive development;

• the design and location of secondary dwellings;

• the provision of updated off-street car parking ratios to cater for resident and visitor

parking demand for Multiple dwellings, Student accommodation, Dual occupancy and Dwelling houses;

• the design of Student accommodation development;
• an amended Warner Investigation Area boundary to re-clarify Council’s position on future urban growth and development in the area.
