TIWI LAND COUNCIL Are seeking: A Resource and Environment OfficerThe Tiwi Land Council functions to ascertqain and express the wishes and opinions of the Tiwi people as to the management of the land and sea in the Tiwi region, protecting the interest of the Traditional Owners, assisting in the protection of sacred sites, assist the Tiwi people in traditional land claims, assist Traditional Owners in carrying out commercial activity, and supervise and provide administrative and other assistance for Land Trusts holding Indigenous land in the Tiwi region. About the role The Tiwi Land Council (TLC) is seeking a full-time Resource and Environment Office to join our team. To provide scientific natural resource management advice and services to the tiwi Land Council and Tiwi Landowners. This includes developing and implementing natural resource management strategies and programs, identifying, assessing and responding to risks and development initiatives. The resource and Environment Office will be reponsible for the key responsibilities set out below: Represent the Tiwi Land Council in consultative forum. Provide advice to the Tiwi Land Council and Landowners on natural resource management and environmental issues. Sourcing funding for and managing on projects, including partnership projects. Provide information to developers, researchers, contractors, Tiwi service organistions, business, government and NGO’s. Producing and presenting public awareness material. Host media visits to the Island and facilitate interviews with Landowners. Negotiate across organisations with competing interests, balance the sometimes-competing interest of the environmental imperatives and social and economic aspiration of the Tiwi people, in the strategies and programs that the position recommends. Meet landowners expectations given limited resource availability. Access and report to Tiwi Land Council matters relating to Environmental projects on tiwi Land, Monitor and evaluate the performance of any such project. Ensure compliance of the Environmental policy and procedures, Evaluate the performance of any such project and provide public awareness and consultation in relation to any such project. This position requires: Tertiary qualifications in natural resource management, technical experience in the natural resource management field, including practical local knowledge and understanding of indigenous issues. Technical skills, project management and writing of project proposals. Should be conversant with writing reports, presentations and good management skills. Should be good community mobilizer and facilitate sessions. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with a range of statekholders on sensitive issues requiring tact and diplomacy. Will take directions from the CEO or General Manager of the Tiwi land Council and where directed assist the Land Council in any other area in performing its fucntions.
