PUBLIC NOTICE Wangan and Jagalingou People Native Title Determination Application Authorisation Meetings

Authorisation meetings have been called for the Wangan and Jagalingou People Native Title Determination Application (QUD25/2019) (‘Application’) by Queensland South Native Title Services (‘QSNTS’).

The native title claim group for the Application is currently described as follows:

Claimants who identify with the name Wangan and Jagalingou descendants of the following persons:

    • Billy and Lucy (parents of Jimmy Tarpot, Mary Ann Alboro and Mary Ellen)
    • Daisy Collins
    • Nellie Digaby
    • Dan Dunrobin (also known as Dunrobin, Christopher Dunrobin and Dan Robin)
    • Frank Fisher (Snr) of Clermont
    • Annie Flourbag
    • Jimmy Flourbag
    • Katy of Clermont
    • Charlie McAvoy of Logan Downs
    • Liz McEvoy of Alpha
    • Maggie of Clermont (also known as Maggie Miller and Nandroo)
    • The Mother of Jack (Girrabah) Malone and Jim (Conee) Malone

AUTHORISATION MEETING #1

THIS NOTICE INVITES

all members of the current claim group to an authorisation meeting at the time and location below:

: Saturday 31 August 2019

Venue

: Mercure Brisbane (85-87 North Quay, Brisbane QLD 4000)

Time

: 9:30am (Registration commences 8:30am)

The purpose of Authorisation Meeting #1 is to consider authorising the following proposed amendments to the Application:

    • amend the claim group description to reflect that membership is defined by descent from one or more authorised apical ancestors.
    • amend the claim group description to no longer include the following apical ancestors: 
  • Katy of Clermont
  • Maggie of Clermont (also known as Maggie Miller and Nandroo)
  • Nellie Digaby
  • Annie Flourbag
  • Momitja
  • Daisy Collins

 

If the proposed amendments listed at 1 and 2 are authorised, the newly described claim group for the Application will be the descendants of one or more of the following people:

all members of the claim group for the Application (as newly described) to an authorisation meeting at the time and location below:

Time

: 9:30am (Registration commences 8:30am)

The purpose of Authorisation Meeting #2

is to:

  • authorise an Applicant in accordance with s 66B of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA);
  • authorise the Applicant to make an application under s 66B of the NTA to replace the current Applicant;
  • consider amendments to the Terms and Conditions of Appointment of the Applicant;
  • consider changing the name of the Application from ‘Wangan and Jagalingou People’ to ‘Clermont-Belyando Area Native Title Claim’;
  • consider and authorise amendments to the native title rights and interests claimed in the Application;
  • authorise the Applicant to engage a legal representative for future act and cultural heritage matters.
  • consider and authorise new native title claims over the areas shown indicatively on the Map.
  • In respect to the new claim areas:
  • authorise an Applicant to make the application;
  • consider Terms and Conditions of Appointment of the Applicant;
  • authorise the Applicant to engage a legal representative for future act and cultural heritage matters.

 

Each authorisation meeting will be preceded by an information session to provide information and legal advice about the business to be considered.
